 The first known settlers, who reached the present area of Marion County, before the founding of Jefferson, were Robert and Harriet Potter. Robert Potter was called the “Bad Boy of the Texas Republic” and his wife, Harriet Potter, was admired as the “Bravest Woman” in the Texas Republic.
